5 Hot New Trends for Spring

March is finally the month when we can bid winter goodbye (we hope!) and look forward to spring.  The crocuses and daffodils are popping up all over the country, and each day seems to be just a little bit warmer and a little bit sunnier.  Who cares if that’s just my imagination – we might as well be optimistic, right?  And what better way to get excited about the warmer weather than looking to next season’s trends?  When the spring clothes come out in shops, it’s basically permission to start anticipating summer!  Here’s my list of the top five trends to look out for this season:

1. Island

Think botanical prints, bright colours, and bold statement necklaces.  No one really knows whether we’ll get a good summer this year, but you’ll be in an upbeat mood and imagining you’re headed to the beach once you don these beauties! (Dress from Topshop, Necklace from Zara and Top from Zara).

2. Sports

Sportswear is leaning towards monochrome this season, so keep it block colour and simple.  Crop tops are still in favour and, with the warmer weather on its way, not such a daring option as they were a few months ago. (Bralet from Topshop, Skort from Topshop.)

3. French Riviera

For the more sophisticated lady, combine your newfound love of gingham with beautiful pastel shades, scalloped edges, and wide-brimmed hats to make the most of the retro look that’s currently in favour.  Think Audrey Hepburn if all else fails! (Top from Topshop, Hat from Asos, Top from Topshop.)

4. Slogans

Reportedly, prints with slogans and logos haven’t been this popular since the 80s!  Cash in on the street-flavoured trend with a statement or branded t-shirt. (Levis Top from Asos, Coke Top from Topshop.)

5. The Long Skirt

It’s not so much about the maxi this year as it is about the midi.  Anywhere between the bottom of your knees and before your ankles will do.  The long skirt hearkens back to the housewifely 50s, but don’t be put off.  They’re elegant and ideal for a more formal event when paired with a pretty and form-fitting top. (Skirt from Topshop, Skirt from Zara, Skirt from Asos.)
