On the 8th of June something magical is going to happen. Within the walls of the University of Exeter’s Old Library, The Bill Douglas Centre will be transformed into a walk-way through the cinematic past. The event allows the museum to showcase some of the beautiful pieces that are not normally on display and is a unique opportunity to see what is normally hidden away in the museum archives. Displays showing artefacts from the Bill Douglas Centre museum collection from the 1920s through to the 1970s will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the different eras of vintage film.

The event will be arranged as a journey through time, charting the developments and movements in cinematic history and culture. Elaborating upon these displays, there will be talks throughout the day from Exeter University academics on subjects ranging from British Vogue and The Great Gatsby to James Bond. Once you’ve acquired all this expert knowledge and inspiration there will be tea in china teacups and delicious cakes for refreshment. Singer Lola Portmanteaux will perform songs from the golden age of glamour and DJ Tom Stephenson will spin 78s. Exeter University KnitSoc will also be putting on master classes to kickstart your transformationinto a vintage god or goddess. Leave this event as the picture of vintage perfection, with brains, baked goods, and handicraft skills under your high-waisted belt.

The Bill Douglas Centre Vintage Event is in the Old Library on the 8th June from 12-4pm.

Don’t miss out on this great event!
