Here at Razz we’re always keen to keep you up to date with what’s going on in Exeter. Whether it be theatre, film, music or art… there’s a lot happening. But what’s the point if you can’t safely walk home again afterwards?
Devon County Council is still planning to turn off our streetlights. The plans have been in the pipeline for many years, being delayed in large part thanks to the Student Guild and our students. But they haven’t dropped the idea, with a meeting taking place this month.
The plans are for Exeter’s streetlights to be turned off at night between 12.30am and 5am in a bid to save money. This would mean people walking in the pitch black, including many students. It will put people at a higher risk of being the victims of crime, as well as making people scared of walking around their own city.
If you want to help stop these reckless plans, the Guild will be in the Forum every day this week between 11am and 5pm with a petition you can sign. You can also download and sign the petition on the Guild website.
Help us show the Council that safety is something we take seriously.
