Remaking Art: Keep calm and Keep recycling

After seeing Anna’s post about the constant reinterpretation of Van Gogh it set me thinking about how we recycle whole loads of concepts and images – from impressionist paintings to vintage fashion to solid design.

Perhaps the perfect example of fast design recycling is the ‘Keep Calm’  poster – new prints and varieties seem to crop up every day as a new generation rewrites what was a piece WW2 propaganda. It shows how classic design has the strength and fortitude to withstand the erosion of time: one piece of design remains in flux – so it can be everything to everybody. Here are some of my favourites:

The Original

keep calm and hakuna matata

keep calm and call batman

keep calm and grow a mustache

 Razz!

keep creative and berry on everyone
